Purple is seriously overexposed. Or is it?
continues to be one of my most-read posts.
It also happens to be 18 months old!
So why is purple still going strong?

House Beautiful magazine's
"Hottest New Paint Colors for 2011"
includes "GRAPE HYACINTH" 31-24 (ABOVE) by Pratt and Lambert Paints. Designer Angie Hranowski counts "Grape Hyacinth" amongst her current favorites.

A somewhat grayed-purple (BELOW) enriches the mahogany chest, while cool silver finishes lend elegant touches to the vignette.

I'm amazed by how much I continue to see of this color. And why not? Purple is rich and soothing and full of so many shades, both bright and subtle, rich and matte. Purple really does have something for everyone!
Benjamin Moore Paints
named "VINTAGE WINE," 2116-20, (BELOW) its
"2011 COLOR OF THE YEAR."

A dark aubergine, "Vintage Wine" is similar to
Farrow and Ball's "BRINJAL" which I discussed in a recent post, "Color and Design Trends for 2011."

"LILY LAVENDER" 2071-60
and "MISTY LILAC" 2071-70
(ABOVE, RESPECTIVELY) as two of their
"most popular paint colors for bedrooms."

Note how these lightest lavenders (ABOVE),
in some cases with only a hint of color,
come alive with fuchsia and cherry red accents!

Purple can be taken in many directions and paired with unexpected colors, including

Purple and gold? You can't miss.

Uses of purple are expanding,
taking on unexpected pairings and patterns...

Designer David Kaihoi's tiny East Village apartment, featured in House Beautiful in 2010, caused a stir with its daring, royal "PURPLE HAZE" 1413
(Benjamin Moore) covering all walls and trim!

Note how the purple allows both darker (wood)
and lighter (mirror) pieces to pop!

And as for the 2011 runways...

Now I could do with this little number!
